3rd Partnerworkshop - Foresight Thinking

As fixed events we established our so called partnerworkshops during the last year’s design thinking course. When all of our corporate partners come to see their design teams’ presentations, we now usually invite them to stay one day longer with us in St.Gallen for learning more about and from eachother. In the last course we had in total three of these workshops. The last one, that took place in the beginning of July was dedicated to foresight thinking. Tamara Carleton and William R. Cockayne from Stanford University who have been giving a presentation early in the year have developed through the last years this impressiv set of tools, which they describe as follows:

Long-range foresight is about understanding the situation today, seeking future opportunities, and intelligently creating innovations. With the combination of these tools, we believe you will be able to prepare successfully for the future and answer three fundamental questions:
_
  • How do I begin looking for future opportunities?
  • How can I create a path to these opportunities that anticipates the inevitable changes along the way?
  • What can I start doing today that will help me get there first?

How is foresight thinking connected to design thinking?

Foresight thinking is actually helping you to develop a vision of the future. And within this vision design thinking can be used to deliver the innovation bringing you there.
