Design Thinking / Business Innovation

The University of St. Gallen offers you the unique opportunity to advance your professional development while pursuing a Ph.D. at one of Europe’s leading business schools. We offer you the opportunity to complete a Ph.D. within 3,5 years at the University of St. Gallen. The scientific orientation of your Ph.D. research will be determined by the conjunction with our corporate partner – such as Deutsche Bank and Swisscom IT Services – and your output will be integrated within the overall research area Design Thinking.

Activities and Research Focus Areas will be, among others:

  • Research on the transfer of innovation method into companies with focus on IT organizations and Design Thinking
  • Teaching Team Member for Design Thinking lectures at HSG in cooperation with Stanford University and other global partner universities
  • Design of new lectures in the domain of Business Innovation and Design Thinking

Applicants with the following qualifications will be considered for this program:

  • Excellent academic standing at a scientific university, in (not exclusively):
    • Business Management
    • Natural Science
    • Engineering
    • Design / Industrial Design
    • Computer Science or Information Management
  • Master’s degree
  • Very good writing skills and highly proficient spoken and written English and German
  • Analytical skills as well as willingness to take on new challenges
  • Relevant internships or practical experience, preferably in a foreign language country
  • High-level of motivation and commitment, problem-solving skills, responsibility, and willingness to perform on a top level
